Linda,

?

? With the upper hose off and the fan belt removed or
just loosened, you should be able to spin the water pump by hand.? But
stand back, wear goggles, and a rain coat!? If you don't see any water
flying out the hose, maybe it's time for a new pump.? If the bearing in the
pump are bad, you WILL hear it.? But if there is a bunch of play at the
pulley, the bearing will go bad soon.? If the seal is bad, it will leak out
a weep hole in the bottom of the pump's casing.? If it just leaks a little,
you may want to try a RESTORE product that is designed to swell old seals and
hopefully stop the leak.

? With the tower cap off but the thermostat in place, the
thermostat will keep you from seeing any water movement.? Pulling the hose
will tell you for sure.

?

? When was the last time you flushed out the cooling
system?? Including the heater core?? I flushed my system one summer
and everything was great, ... until one fall morning I decided to use the
heater.? Suddenly the engine overheated.? The coolant was filthy when
I drained some out.? Turned out the heater core was full of 'crap' and once
I opened the valve, it all flowed right to the radiator and clogged most of
it.? Thankfully another good flush cleaned it all out.

?

?? And remember, there are lots of other reasons for
a motor to overheat.

?

Paul
