re-installing calipers

  I finally got around to pulling the front hub to replace a bad wheel stud.
But of course, the brake pads have pushed in and now the calipers won't fit
back over the rotor.  It has been too long since I did this last, and I
think my son walked off with the special tool we used to use.
  Any suggestions on the easiest way to spread the pads so I can finish this
job?
