The air in the floats expand and contract with temperature. The brass floats work harden and crack after doing this for a while. The plastic ones just flex a bit and do not work harden. I've done a few carbs and have found lots of bad brass ones and no bad plastic ones. The really good ones are the hinged floats, they are foam and don't ever sink. They don't do well if you set them on fire but that's a different problem. keith |
