The early 240z cars (70/71) came with a 4 speed with removable bellhousing.
This bellhousing mounted on the Roadster five speed allowed the Roadster
trans to be mounted to the L series engine. If I were making the swap I would
definitely stay with the L series 5 speed trans. It is much more durable than
the Roadster 5 speed and is cheaper to rebuild. I know, I had a Roadster
servo style box rebuilt. I had a friend do it who cut me a deal and I still
spent over $800. Leave the Roadster transmissions for the Roadster guys and
use a Z five speed. Even if you pay $100 for a used trans from a junkyard I
think you still might come out ahead dollar wise after the rebuild.
Just my 2 cents worth.
