Hooray for me!
I'm a relatively newish member to the list, but may I now "toot my own
horn"?
I hope so, because I have just re-built my heater valve. It wasn't easy.
Lots of WD-40, patience not to overwhelm the brass stuff, and two new
O-rings. And I saved all that money! I lost my bid on EBay for that slick
new one that went for $56. I bid up to $45 for that one. Man, those things
are expensive! Upon disassembly, it really did seem to appear in good shape
(no corrosion, etc.) just "locked up from being dry for 36 years. It's not
installed yet, but I'm about 80% confident it shouldn't leak. I was either
going to bypass it and go directly to the heater core, or not even include
the heater in the cooling circuit. I'd rather have all original equipment
operable if possible, but $86 for a weekend, fair weather driver? I couldn't
decide if it was worth it. I'd rather spend bucks on fun things like Chrome!
If anyone has a reasonably affordable interchange suggestion, I could use a
Plan B.
