Gotta open my big mouth here. The VLF temporary reduction was actually one of
the better written laws of recent years. It said that the fee would be
reduced by 2/3 as long as the economy warranted. Now that there is a big
deficit, caused because we aren't all making a killing selling stock and
paying capital gain taxes, the automatic return to normal was kicked in. This
is a good way to write a law like that (kinda like a personal budget that
said: while we have loads of cash, I will put $1000 a year into restoring my
car. but if I lose my job I'll stop. duh) Davis is a no personality,
micromanaging politician; I held my nose as I voted for him last election. Is
an actor with no experience who won't tell us where he stands on almost any
issue a better bet to run the state? Not for me.

And I'd need to see that reg change. Tripling a portion of $51 could never
become $448. Sounds like someone bought a new car to me!

Subject: Re: California Registration Fees
I got my registration renewal. It is $56. I paid $1100 for my '70 1600 a
couple of years ago. The VLF rebate was repealed, which was 2/3 of the
VLF. My VLF is $18. If the rebate was still in effect, my registration
would have been $12 lower. For my Minivan, the VLF is $364, the rebate is
$246, so that bill will be going from $156 this year to as much as $402
next year.
