I got my SCCA competition racing license this past Saturday. It was my
first time in the 1600 roadster on the track at Portland International
Raceway and as the car is a racecar, my first time driving it more than
200 feet. I have never owned a Datsun and so consequently, I am unused
to shifting it. The car wants 5th at the end of the straight with the
chicane closed but I had a devil of time successfully downshifting to
get to third to make the first righthander. If I stayed in fourth,
downshifting to 3rd was easy. From fifth, I banged against the reverse
gears a couple of times. So my question is, is there a lockout or a
modified shift pattern template that can be installed to make it less
likely or difficult to get reverse at speed?
