Thanks to all who resonded. I tried the "lights out" test lastnight and ran
the car in pitch darkness to see if I could see any arcing or any light show
around the dist cap... Nothing.
I have tried putting my timing light on each sparkplug wire and the ignition
coil wire in order to see if I'm getting spark. Plug wires 1 and 2 are
dead. (tried new plug wires...)
The dist is relatively new (10,000 miles ago). The cap looks good, no
cracks or scoring. The contacts for each plugwire on the underside of the
cap have slight scoring where the rotor passes by, but nothing to severe.
I did replace the points and condenser, but I might try going back to the
old set just incase my installation or new set was faulty.
I doubt converting to electronic ignition (something I've been considering)
would solve anything since it still needs to rotor and dizzy to go round and
round. (right?)
Tonight I put the old distributor back in and see if anything changes.
Stay tuned! (pun fully intended)
