Allen,
The rear brakes on your roadster are probably the simplest Bendix style brake
you
will ever see. I do mine without any tools at all. Assuming the drum slips off
as it should all you have to do to remove the brake shoes is note how the two
springs are installed and which is on top and which is on the bottom. Once you
have made notes about the springs and orientation of the shoes (top and bottom)
just grab the shoes and pull them towards you. They will come right off.
Putting them on is almost as easy. No fasteners. Just spring tension in the
correct direction. On the backing plate you will notice flat areas under the
edge of the shoe. Coat these pads with white grease before you reinstall the
shoes.
If you are putting new shoes on you should turn the adjuster out so that the
shoes will close enough to allow the drum to fit.
If you are getting into the slave cylinders it is a little more complicated.
There are 4 shims that hold the cylinders on. Pay very close attention to how
these shims come off and put them back on in the same manner. If the cylinders
need rebuilding, contact one of the vendors and purchase a new pair. Don't
waste your money or time on what is most likely going to be a failed rebuild.
For pix of the shims in various stages of installation you can look at my tech
page http://www.fransfancies.com/datsun.
