The batteries last for a long time too. I think my battery is the original and
I have a 91 Miata :)

They are small, fairly cheap, powerful and can be easily vented o/s the
trunk.

  Hi Mike,
I didn't know that about the Miata battery. I know a great Miata parts yard
where I purchased two mint condition, Miata seats. I will pay them a visiti to
look at battery hardware. Ron has a completely sealed battery in his
Rocketship. He said you could turn it upside down and nothing would leak or
vent. I was thinking of this route or a more conventional solution would be
using a boat battery case with a vent tube for the gases.

As some of you may or may not know the Miata has the battery in the trunk!!I
highly recommend the Miata battery for those of you thinking of
relocatingyours there. It has a special vent and is a glass mat type so it
doesn't gaslike a normal battery.Speaking of which, you really shouldn't just
throw your regular battery inthe trunk w/o buying a battery container so the
gases are vented to theatmosphere. You really don't want battery gases to
build up in the trunk asthey are explosive and very corrosive.Mike-----

Good Question...Why?Speaking for myself. I am not concerned about storage
space in mytrunk. My roadster will not be used for long trips or
transportinganything other than a spare tire,a couple of road flares and some
spare tools and emergency parts.I amcurrently building a 1600 custom stroker
project. I am a tad fussyabout the engine compartment. In my opinion, the
less junk i.e. heaterhoses, etc that can be removed or placed elsewhere the
better. Havingthe battery in the trunk provides a cleaner, more spacious
enginecompartment. I do agree. It is totally not necessary. But then againif
I was practical I would buy a Miata. Heaven knows a Miata would becheaper and
a lot less hassel (BUT not nearly as much fun as figuringhow I can get that
big ass battery in the trunk). Clearly, I do nothave a restorer, purist
motiveation. How, does that song go..."I justwanna to have some fun." AND
have the fl
ipping battery in the trunk.GuyTempe,AZJon and Maggie wrote:
I have read on the list on several occasion over the last month
aboutindividuals putting their battery in the truck. I just have to ask
thequestion "Why?" It seems that you would just use valuable space in your
truck
when there is plenty of room in the engine compartment. I can understand
when
you're making a 'Datsun 3000' (an amazing feat) but other than that....What am
I missing?Sincerely,Jon Rider'69 2000Bothell, WA
