The thing on the firewall is a switch. It detects an imbalance between
front and rear and turns on the red light on the dash. Proportioning is
done in the master cylinder.
Double flares are a must on break lines. Singles will break the flange
and/or pull through the fitting. A double flare tool is easy to use once
you get the hang of it.
You might consider SS lines. A bit pricey but you'll only have to do it
once. Check the following URL:

You have to search for both SRL311 and 2000 to get all of them. (Go
figure!) I plan to do this in the near future.
