The early and late top latches are completely different.  Also theres a big 
difference in windshield height.  Are there holes for a middle latch that's 
missing?  There should be brackets of some sort on your hardtop that bolt 
it to the two posts just behind the doors.  Are there brackets, or at least 
holes for brackets?  These are the same posts that the soft top frame 
pivots on.  Once it is bolted on firmly in the back it shouldn't squirm 
like you're seeing.  That assumes the weatherstripping on the hardtop is 
good too.  Five degrees doesn't sound like enough to make it a short 
windshield hardtop.  May just be warpage.
