L + C,

How quickly does it die? I am no mechanic, but I have experienced this
symptom (on my 510, I think):

Problem: As soon as you release the key from the start position, the engine
dies.
Solution: The ballast resister is open or disconnected. In the start
position, the resister is bypassed. In the run position, the ignition system
is fed via the resister. If it's bad, or corroded, or otherwise not there,
no ignition. Have you verified that you are getting a spark while the key is
in the run position?

Good luck.

Chris
