To list, Marc Sayer asked me to post this to the list, as he has been
having trouble doing so. I am happy to do so. I contacted Marc (or was
it vice versa?) regarding my concerns that Allen was being jumped on a
bit for his gear box info, and Marc clearly understood and responded...
thanks Marc! Obviously you are a quality guy, and if I poked at you a
bit, my apologies as well.

Greg I have been having problems off and on posting to the list. Some
times a post goes through fine, other times it bounces back as
undeliverable. Anyway, I've tried to send this post several times and it
will not go through. Would you be kind enough to post it for me?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been brought to my attention that it seemed to some that I was
jumping on Allen and his attempt to share some info he'd found regarding
aftermarket tranny kits, with my warning about the aftermarket synchros.
That was absolutely not my intention. Nor was I trying to say the kits
are worthless. In fact the best approach is often to get the kits but
not use the included synchros, and to buy Nissan sychro to replace them.
As I recall, doing it this way was still far less costly than buying all
Nissan parts.

Now the Nissan synchros may not be available anymore, that I can't say,
as I am not in the parts business anymore and Nissan parts supply is
fluctuating a lot. And if there are no more Nissan synchros, then I can
offer no good alternatives at this point. :-( And I will add this;
inspecting parts sourced from Nissan over the past few years, it seems
to me that Nissan has been sourcing more and more service parts from the
aftermarket, epsecially in the last 6-12 months. So even getting your
parts from Nissan is no guarantee that you'll get good parts anymore. In
my opinion, you pretty much always need to inspect new parts to ensure
they are substantially like the originals nowadays.

Let me say again, no disrespect towards Allen was intended, I was just
trying to offer up some info that I felt might save Allen and others
some cash and heartache down the road. And I was not discounting his
suggestions outright, just offering an opinion on one set of parts, the
synchros, in the kit he was talking about. Parts that I knew from
experience and research were substandard.
