I think I found out your problem. I looked in my box of disassembled 1600
trannies and found several clutch bearing sleeves. One was real short and
the other was about 1/4" longer as well as being designed differently.
You may have the wrong sleeve.
When you pull the tranny again give me the measurements of yours.
The 4 speeds came with a cast iron front cover or an aluminum cover both of
which have different thicknesses which probably explains the different
sleeves.
