I've got the same problem with my '66, so I'm gonna jump on this wagon. I got
the pin out of my transmission. The drive pin has a flap on each end, 180
degrees of from the other...[a small paddle which drives the gears]. I can't
find it in my manual? I order everything close in the picture that said
pin...they were roll pins and of no use?

I created a drive pin, using two small metal tabs and a larger roll pin. It
lasted for 1 1/2 days. The 90 degree drive from cable to transmission is a 1:1
ratio. I tested it via mile markers on the interstate...it was accurate
distance wise but speed wise it was abt? double? duh! or duh! duh!
???????????????
