Depends on when you went there. I've used them several times, and have
almost always been extremely pleased. I've gone out of my way to get to
know the owner and make sure he knows me too though. They haven't always
been cheap, but if I lay out clear expectations and a budget, they have
done pretty well. He had a couple of folks working for him before that
were kind of brain dead, but they're gone and he has hired the former long
time mechanic at Bob Brown Tires to be his partner. Both of them (Brett
is the owner) are pretty Roadster and 510 knowledgable. Brett's dad Bill
started the business years ago, and now runs a shop somewhere else in
Oregon, either Hood River or Bend I can't remember. His dad just did a
custom KA24 install in an older 1600 that was brought to the annual datsun
show at Blue Lake last summer that is pretty awesome. I just asked him
about cutting the struts on my 510 wagon to put in Z inserts, and Brett
claimed he and his dad were some of the first folks to do that years ago.
Brett's a pretty good guy, but like many mechanics, may do a better job
for you if you develop a relationship of sorts first.

The shop that is selling this motor is USA Perfomance Auto on about 136th
and
Stark in Portland, Oregon. Anyone else have experience with these guys?
They've worked on both my 510s and while they try to make you feel like
they
know exactly what they are doing, I'm not incredibly happy with their
work.
Your thoughts on them would be appreciated as I want to know if it is
"just
me." Thanks
