I have used a variety of tricks from using large Craftsman slip jaw pliers,
a large screwdriver drivin through the filter and buying a special oil
filter plier.
I had the same problem in my Miata the first time I tried to change the
filter and it was a nightmare as there was no room to work.
If it's the Roadster it should be pretty easy although I'm sure you are
freaking out as I was. Take your time it will come off. Taking out the
battery would help as you'll have more room to work.
