I had a bar fabricated by a local steel shop that bolts to the bumper
mounts, the anti-sway bar towers, and the front frame member.
It cost me about $150 to make. I fabricated a prototype out of 1/4" foam
core, and they assembled this thing for me out of 1/4" steel plate. The
lower edge of the bar rides lower than the low edge of the front apron, and
accomodates the brackets my tow bar bolts onto. You can leave your bumper
on while this bar is mounted if you want to. It sounds like we got the same
tow bar units.
I have since rid myself of my truck (since the car is now restored and is
reasonably dependable), and would consider selling the bar, or providing it
to you on an extended loan.
I had a Chevy C10 Cheyenne Fleetside (1/2 ton) with a class IV hitch. It
rode a little high, so I needed to get a ball mount that dropped 9" so that
the tow bar didn't rake up to the truck at too extreme an angle. I got
those magnetic base tow lights so that I was all legal to tow w/it. I
towed the car to Les' (CDM) place from San Francisco, and to/from Shasta in
1999 (to some polite teasing from my fellow BADROCers and some disdainful
looks at the Shastice parking lot!).
