The mechanic that has been rebuilding my 2000 specifically said he needed
the proper inner gasket before he would re-assemble and install the oil
pump. I had a hard time finding the gasket and eventually ordered it direct
from Nissan in Japan. It is the flimsiest gasket I have ever seen @ 6/1000
(?) of an inch thick. This leads me to believe the tolerance must be very
critical. You can see where the gears have made an impression on the pump
end where the gasket sits. Is my mechanic being too picky? I don't want to
mess with it considering it is one of the most important pieces of the
engine. Larry.

Does the Pump have a plate on the bottom that is removable ? Maybe the
shaft is pushing down too tight on the gear plate. If so, put a thicker
gasket on as a spacer.
