Gang,
I'm putting back together my 4 speed tranny and after 6 months of not
looking at it the old memory is not what is used to be. So....I've got the
main gear clusters put back together and all the bits on idler in. I'm about
to drive in the main bearing retainer - rear one. And before I put some
"oomph" behind it, I thought I'd check with ya'll - is the inner race supposed
to go on tight onto the main shaft? I can by hand bring the retainer
(aluminium?) in so that the retainer touches the tranny casing but it looks
like the shaft is the one that interferes with the inner race of the bearing
in the retainer.I still have about 1/2 inch to go - basically to hide the
retainer inside the tranny casing shoulder. I can not remember how much force
it took me to remove the retainer when I took the tranny apart, so I'm a bit
hesitant to bang it in. Any words of wisdom from those who have gone before
me??

Many thanks in advance!
