The comp pan comes out just like the regular one - both can be removed without
pulling the engine.

The service manual says 3.6 ft/lb (it's only an M6 bolt) and I suspect most
people overtighten them. I have been told that the more you tighten them, the
more it leaks.

I use a VERY THIN layer of sealant and tighten them carefully. It works most of
the time.

I did encounter one very odd problem a while back. The block had been
align-bored enough that the rear main bearing cap was sunk down (up?) into the
block, leaving a gap of about .015" where the oil pan is supposed to mate with
it. I had to cut a filler gasket to stop the leak.

Hello All,
I am trying to chase down the leaks in my car. I know I have a
pretty good one coming from the oil pan gasket. Seems like some of the
bolt heads are sheared off and theh pan is leaking from there. Is there any
way to remove the comp pan while the engine is still in the car??
By the way what are the torque specs for the oil pan bolts?? And no I did not
break them it came that way but I was too dumb to notice them till
after the engine was in the car.....
