Hello all,
I am the proud new owner of an early '67 1600. (I am
the poor sap who purchased the car from Adam Bradley.)
That being said, I am in the middle of a rather rushed
restoration project.
My background in Datsuns started with a 510 I purchased
for $65 11 years ago. (Drove it 250 miles to my sister who
was in college, gave it to her. She drove it for 4 months
until the clutch went out, then she sold it to someone who
wanted to restore it for $65.)
My first Datsun wasn't too memorable, I only had it for
a few days. My second Datsun is a typical story of a high
school kid who just got a real job and bought a sports car,
I got a '76 280z (2+2). I was fortunate to have purchased
the car from someone who had babied it for its 15 years on
this planet. I drove it like a teen-ager, put an
additional 100,000 miles on it, left the country, came
back, left the country again, came back, and the car still
runs. I've taken that old Z from Canada to Mexico,
California to Pennsylvania, and it is still a part of the
family. (I'm initially from a mountain state which salts
the roads, the car still runs, but the body is all but gone
due to rust.)
My old Z now is at my parents house, they use it as a
back-up vehicle.
I am now married, have two kids (With a third on the
way) and am experiencing an early mid-life crisis. Enter
the new roadster.
The car I bought is mechanically sound and has no
significant rust. The interior is shot, but that can be
fixed. The color is currently pink primer and surface
rust, that again will be fixed soon.
My goal for the car is to have a fun driver car, I do
not have the means nor time to do a 100% restoration. I've
ordered a complete interior kit, a new dash, and a complete
weatherstripping kit. I live in Orange county and have
some connections with the local Vietnamese community and
will be taking the car to a local Viet auto-body shop for
the body work / paint. The car was initially white, which
meant a red interior. I'm keeping the interior red, but
plan on painting the car yellow. (Hot-Dog stand colors)
I'm new to the mailing list and am sure to have a few
questions. Forgive me if I ask questions which have
already been posted / answered.
