'66 interior handle

I just got off Rob's most excellent web site.  The archive picture has a
nice drawing of a '65 interior.  I noticed the interior door handle pointing
up.  I have always assumed that the handle pointed forward and was parallel
to the horizon.  Is the correct orientation for this handle pointing up?  Is
my '66 handle wrong pointing forward?  I sure hope not - I have never been
wrong before......:-)
