Speed and excitement are often related to what you are using to get down
the hill with. I was out watching the luge guys and as they were making
the 90 degree turn they would use their shoes to slow them down. Going
at speed near 60 mph (so they say) you could smell the rubber burning
and see smoke coming off their shoes. I wanted to see some bodies
flying, but they seemed to be under a lot of control.
There were also some folks on bikes and there wasn't enough speed or
turns to make this very interesting. I remember coming down from Mt.
Whitney Portal on my bike years ago. There was enough speed to melt the
brakes and there was a high pucker factor. In the family station wagon
it was just like going down to the corner store. I think it would be
fun to see them do this course on Flexy Flyers. These are fast with
little control. Now that would be fun to watch.
