OK, so there's no roadster content here but I thought it would be a story worth
repeating.
I was telling my brother about my roadside experience and just as big brothers
do he had to one up me. He and his family were traveling home from Glacier
National Park (big chevy van and trailor) when the he started to get get an
occasional whiff of gas. He pulled over, checked everything out under the car
and there were no leaks. He pulled the gas cap off and saw a few very small
bubbbles popping off that he attributed to the fact that he had topped off the
gas tank about 20 miles earlier and maybe the change in altitude was causing
the gas to expand some(?). Everything seemed ok so he hopped in and continued
on his merry way.
About 20 miles further down the road he started to smell something burning and
he realized the jute under the carpet in the back of the van was smoking. Ok,
pulls off again, pops off the gas cap and MY GOD the gas is boiling!!!
Everybody out of the van now!!
Long story short it turned out there was a hole in the muffler the size of a
mans fist (he knew there was a small dime size hole but this one you couldn't
see) that was heating up the gas tank and catching the jute on fire. Scarry
stuff!
