Hey List,

Been getting to know my car since it came out of its five year hibernation.
I think the two of us are going to be good friends. I have been discovering
the quirks and differences in the 5 speed over the four speed tranny. 1st
gear on the five speed is TALL. Seems to go on forever! The power is great
although the Solexes don't like anything under 2000 RPM.

One interesting thing is my fuel system monitoring. It's always a guessing
game as to what the fuel gauge will read. When I first got the car and
filled it up, the gauge travelled from E to F upon startup. As the trip
counter hit 50 miles and the gauge hadn't moved, I thought "Wow, pretty good
gas mileage for Solexes!"

Right.

It soon became obvious that the gauge was not moving. So I took the Fuel
Sending Unit out of the tank and checked it out. Looked OK. Now, whenever I
fill the tank, the gauge will choose a spot (never the same place twice) and
will hang out there. I have had to resort to a 200 mile limit between
fuelings to ensure I don't run out. Is there an easy way to tell if it is
the sending unit or the gauge or the connection between the two? I would
love to find out so I can at least get an accurate picture of my fuel
status.

Thanks

Andrew Murphy
