Hello,

My dad just brought over to my house a brand new unit from the late sixties
or so. It is called a Tiger 500 made by the Tri-Star Company in Grand
Junction, CO. He told me that he purchased it to install into his old Volvo.
Well, it was new back then. He never installed it due to the fact that he
had these little kids keeping him too busy to work on his car. Hmmm?

Anyway, I opened the box and it appears to be a Capacitive Discharge Ignition
System. The CDI Unit attaches to the Coil. It also uses the existing
points. It also mentions that the unit will increase idle speed so that
would have to be adjusted to factory specs. and for Racing applications,
consistant operation over 4000rpm the Ballast Resistor must be bypassed. The
gap of the points also need to be increased.

All of this is very unfamiliar to me. But I have no doubt that there are
several of you who know all about this thing and what it actually does. Can
you please shed some light for me? It is something that might make and
interesting installation? What does this thing actually do for the
performance of the car?

There was no sales info with the unit. Only installation instructions.

Thx,
