Another couple of places that help engine noise to get into the AM radio are:
Antenna ground. Make sure that the antenna grounds solidly to the fender.
Hood ground. Run a small braided ground strap from the hood to the body. If
the
hood doesn't ground it acts as a passive radiator between the ignition and the
antenna.
