Nathan,

THe fuel pumps have a different flow rate.

I suspect a 2000 pump on a 1600 would not be an issue,
but runing a 1600 pump on a "tuned" 2000 may result
in a lack of fuel flow at high rpms.

Biggest thing to look for the spacer between the
block and fuel pump. You do need to install that
phenolic block to insure the correct pump pressure.

One trick I have done, when I suspected a fuel
problem at high speed was to KILL THE ENGINE while
driving up a hill at 70 mph. Immediately put in
the clutch, and coast to the side of the road.
SAFETY FIRST! Obviously a wide road, with a good
pull out area. Once I coasted to a stop... simple
matter of pulling the top of the float bowls to
inspect fuel level and confirm with a reading
(examine) the spark plugs for lean condition.

Saftey Switches... the later model Ford vehicles
have a pretty good inertia cut off switch in them.
I plan to do some more junk yard hutning for those
and install them inline with the power wire
to
my (aftermarket) electric fuel pumps. Cheap
insurance (need to rig up a test method first).

Cheers,

Tom Walter
Who, in the days of vapor lock, installed an electric
pump near the fuel tank. Modern fuel doesn't seem to
have the vapor lock problem once noted.
