Lads,

Pat was dead on the money.  Baking soda is the
preferred method of neutralizing ANY acid when it is
spilled in a chemical laboratory.  Whether is is on
metal, skin or some other surface (clothes are hopeless
when exposed to acid).  When you stop seeing bubbles
then it is neutralized.

I'd add excess baking soda.  After bubbles stop add a
some more to absorb the excess water, then vacuum up
the solids with a shop vac.  It is safe - acid will no
longer be present.

Carbonated beverages are acidic.  The carbon dioxide
that is dissolved in water gaurantees that it is acidic
(not to mention small concentrations of phosphoric
acid).  In  short, those will NOT eat acid.
