Take out the boot and center console so you can get at the individual
shifter rods and see if you can push/pull and wiggle it out that way.
Maybe one of the bushings or pins has worn/disintegrated and
bound up the shifter mechanism.  This is the easy/cheap thing to
check before contemplating something bad gone wrong inside
the tranny.
