I just picked up a alt. that bolts right into the place of the old one! It
is a duralast DL7127M. When I asked them for the "single wire" alt. this it
what they gave me. It does need one wire to hook up to a switched power,
but big deal. All the modification I had to do was grind off a small nub
that gave more clearance from the stearing rod. Other than that, it bolted
right in, no washers, spacers, etc. It is rated at 6o amps as well. Since
it is a bit bigger around, there is not as much belt adjustment variance,
but who cares. As soon as I get the last of the parts to put the head back
on I will let you know how it does.
