Cleaning Previously Tinted Glass

This is not a roadster question, but given the recent discussion of
glass cleaning...

Anyone have suggestions for stripping off the residue of previously
tinted glass?  Have begun to remove the mylar film and find the adhesive
residue leaves the windows 'optically challenged'.
