Hello all,

Well, I've gotten the Oxygen sensor thing running, been studying the
needle profiles and generally having a good time. As I get things sorted out
I'll keep you posted. Does anyone on the list have access to the lathe and the
ability to turn SU needles? They are of course about 1/8' in diameter and 2"
long. The accuracy in the taper area need to be about 0.0001" (1 ten-
thousandth). If my research continues to be promising I should be able to come
up with some pretty good profiles.
My '66 1600 with stock needles has always run rich at idle then leaned out
in the midrange. With the Oxy Box I verified that it starts out rich, leans
out then richens up at the top end. Looking at the profiles, the "high
altitude" needle is leaner at idle, and richer in the midrange. Sounds like
just what the doctor ordered. I've got a set on order. When they get here I'll
try them out and see what happens.
The problem with being an instrumentation tech, you become obsessed with
measuring things!!!
