The initial sanding is about done and primer has started on the MGB_that_
shouldn't_be_mine; but here's a question that has to do with what happens
after the painting is done:
You know all those places where I removed snaps, brackets, and lift-the-dot
studs from the body? That's where there were hints of rust that I removed,
(i.e., "between the sheets") and I'd like to prevent more of that. I'll be
sure to use steel, and not aluminum, pop rivets where appropriate, but what
about using a silicone sealer, or seam sealer, or 3M window sealer there
before I tighten them down?
I noticed that some of the lift-the-dot studs had a tiny gasket between
them and the body when I removed them. I haven't checked yet, but I
suspect that I can get these from Moss (or somebody).
I had small rust spot on the "dogleg" of the rear fender (just in front of
the rear wheel). I cut it out, and then just bought this piece from Moss
and welded it in - it fits! Well worth the $16.95 price. (It even comes
with the top edge "flanged", so it's ready to go.) I even impressed myself
with the body filler job I did to cover the weld lines - this was a first
for me, and you guys had me scared about how carefully I needed to sand,
etc., so I really took my time, and it looks great.
Forecast for the weekend here is cloudy, but 70's ... great for wrenching.
Read it and weep, you ice monsters ...
