No, that was originally (wait for it... :-) an M.G. slogan of the
Thirties. Jaguar copped it after the war, before R & T even began
publication if memory serves. The original M.G. slogan was used
for the VA, SA, and WA saloons, which used 2.6L six-cylinder engines
in spacious and elegant bodies, and it was quite appropriate for
that line. If memory serves, it was actually phrased "For grace,
for space, for pace" in the M.G. adverts. Wilson McComb's book
lists this, as well as showing pictures of the last prewar M.G.
racing car, which was a WA saloon (I think; I can't recall the
subtle differences among the xA line) that competed in the Mille
Miglia. It slid on wet leaves outside Florence and retired after
the crash.
My favorite of all the prewar M.G. slogans has to be "Faster Than
Most." That rivals the winning MGB advertising headline, showing
a very hip 1970 couple under an oak tree in madras cloth and tie-dye,
under the phrase "Your mother wouldn't like it."

That was Henry N. Manney III, one of motoring journalism's most
illustrious practicioners, now sadly deceased and much missed.
"The greatest crumpet collector known to man" is how it's usually
cited.
