Fellow fiends: (and the fellow fiend looking at the 73 BGT)
I don't have much to add to the comments that TeriAnn has already posted
regarding the propective purchase of the BGT, in terms of inspecting the
car and assuring yourself of its condition. Mileage does seem pretty
low and I don't know what a Euro plated car is doing in Illinois, but...
I agree with TeriAnn that in many ways it is prettier than the roadster.
It is a more mannered car than the roadster, but still tossable. Also
much better visibility (front and sideways anyway). One comment I might
add is that I heard the rear leaf springs turned out not to be up to
the task of the added weight, as the years went by. You may need to
replace them.
one of the saddest days in my car-life was the day I sold a '74 BGT.
This baby was an absolute delight to drive and I curse the day I sold it.
Also, my wife really liked this car much more than the roadster we had before.
Overdrive made the car an excellent highway cruiser, quiet, good mileage,
and plenty of room. It had a sunroof so that made me feel better that it
wasn't a drop top. Performance wise it was indistinguishable, within my
lowly ability, from the '72 roadster I'd had before, apart from the absence
of cowl shake, the absence of cold drafts, the absence of water in the foot-
wells and the absence of deafening wind and engine noise (not a cheerful
environment for me on long highway trips). So, think long and hard. If
it is in as good a shape as you say, and you decide not to buy it, give me
a quick call and I'll wire the money myself. BTW: what are the dealers
asking??
Have an excellent weekend!
