Well, my second attempt to eliminate the oil leak from the rear tappet
cover on my 68 MGB has failed. Any leak is bad enough, even if a 'lovable'
characteristic of LBCs, but this one drips down on the exhaust downpipes giving
a fire hazard. I'm getting bored of stripping off the carbs and manifolds to
gain access. I'm not sure what the problem is and am appealing for suggestions.
The first try involved using a new gasket, coated in permatex blue silicone.
This past try did not use any sealant but the cork gasket supplied by
Moss may not be thick enough and compresses thinner than the locating ridge
on the tappet cover. It felt good when I tightened it down.
At the risk of reopening a previous discussion.... What is the best sealant -
if any?
