I've been looking into getting my MGB painted, either painting it myself
or having it done professionally. Today at lunch I went to a local
car paint supplier and found a color I like. The guy there is trying
to sell me Chromabase, a urethane base coat/clear coat process. I
mentioned that I had heard beginners should use acrylic lacquer and
that urethane was dangerous. He claimed that this stuff was as easy to
use as lacquer because it was sandable and the base coat goes on just like
lacquer. He also said that they are both equally bad for you.
So what is the opinion of this list? I know this discussion went on
somewhat last December and I have some notes saved, but I would like
to hear if anyone has used a urethane and how well did it work?
The guy told me he could make the color in either their lacquer or the
Chromabase, but he recommends the urethane because the lacquer won't
last nearly as well.
Are these equally dangerous to use? Also are they equally bad to the
environment as a whole? I have a note saved that says that the EPA has
banned mass produced cars from being painted in urethane, but the
sales guy laughed and told me that almost all cars are painted in urethane
these days.

P.s. No, I haven't fixed my high oil pressure problem, but I know it's
not the gauge or the filter. I hope to attack the pressure relief valve
sometime this week.
