P.S. Going from memory here, there was a Chicago Tribune article a few
weeks ago on auto gauges in their Transportation section. It seems
that the terms "gauge" and "instrument" have different specific
meanings relating to levels of accuracy: usually the speedometer
is the only "instrument" on the car, required to have something
like 5% error or less at its calibration point, which in the case
of General Motors is at the 55mph mark. "Gauges" such as for temp-
erature can be somewhat sloppier by comparison. Given the less than
sterling reputation of gauge craftsmanship in your typical LBC, it
does not look like a really good idea to rely on an LBC gauge for
food or liquor preparation. Okay, maybe I'm beating the subject to
death here... :-)
