Scott. I have had similar experiences with jaguars and oil
use over the years. For 10 years I drove a '60 MK II as my
daily driver. It had a rebuilt engine and was in good condition.
I religously checked the oil and found variations as wide as 1/2
quart down after a small number of miles, say 100, and then no
loss of oil after maybe 500 miles. It didn't seem to be related
to distance traveled at one time. I had the same experience with
a 69 E type that I drove as a daily driver for about 7 years. In
both cases most of the miles were put on in short trips, 4 to 5 miles
to work. I never did solve the problem. Now I have a 72 XJ6 that has

a rebuilt engine with about 100,000 miles. I use it to drive to work
mostly at 3.5 miles. It doesn't use oil, I seldom top it up. One
difference is that I no longer am religous about keeping the oil at
exactly the top mark. In all three cars I have always had the smell
of burning oil because there have always been various oil leaks. I

guess that is Jaguar Character...
