One or two more comments on aftermarket performance. I do not know about
16 valve heads for other LBCs, but Kent Auto Developements, Kent, UK makes
a 16 valve twin cam head for a Mini and it really works. In mild street tune,
your A series engine will make 111hp and in race tune 195hp. In a 1400lb
car like a mini, the performance would be amazing.
For comparison, the very fastest GT5 minis do not put out over 150hp, and that
is at 9200 rpm with 15-1 compression (bearings and freshining every 2 engine
hours).
the 16 valve head and accessories costs dearly... about 2500 pounds, but it
could be fun, especially when mated with the new Jack Knight 5sp for minis.
I have met a friend of a friend of mine, who did his own engineering work and
put a BMW twincam 8valve motorcycle head on a mini. Very nicely done, it runs,
it sounds so strange compared to a mini, only a few little bugs to be worked
out. He fitted it to a small bore motor, so as not to screw up a good big
motor in development, but it is pretty quick for an 1100. For most people, it
would be more cost effective to buy the KAD head.
