part of the starter circuit that is often overlooked (I've learned the
hard way), is the engine ground strap. The engine usually sits on rubber mounts
if the strap breaks or makes a poor contact the electricity has a hard time
getting to the chassis ground. There may be enough other paths to handle
a normal running ignition but not the much larger load of the starter.
In these situations things like throttle linkage, choke cables and even
metal fuel lines can become default grounds with exciting results!!!
