Roger, this is Permatex Ultra Blue. The greatest thing since sliced
toast. My mechanic friends will use nothing else. In ordinary use
with gaskets, it does not even seem necessary to get all the oil out
of the joint. It does not give off acetic acid when curing. It has
very high oil resistance. It is not recommended for head gaskets or
constant exposure to gasoline. It is often used instead of gaskets. I
have found that you can use it with a used gasket and not get leaks.
I realize that the method I am using here is not the usual thing, so
if it does not work, I will not consider it a failure of Ultra Blue.
One of the real neat things about it is that you can feel free to use
your fingers to apply it. When uncured, it comes right off your hands
with GoJo. It absolutely cured the big oil leaks I had in the engine
of my Spridget. I am becoming convinced that the rebuilder blew the
seal insertion on this left shock, but I have had it so long, I don't
know if I can go back now. It is complicated by the fact that the
rebuilder is in Huntington Beach, California and I am in Saint Paul.
Nobody seems to know of any rebuilders hereabouts. BTW, how is your
Spridget coming?
