Regarding this leak.  There are 2 possibilities that it could be.  The first
is that the O-ring that sets in the grove and is compressed by the lock ring
around the sending unit has deteriated and needs to be replaced.  This can
be done fairly easily without having to drop the tank.  The hard part is
finding an O-ring that fits the opening.  The lock ring that holds the
sending unit in place can be removed using a soft faced hammer and a long
handled punch or screwdriver to "knock" it around to where it releases.

The second problem is actually a lot easier.  There is a "vent" line tube
coming out of the sending unit that actually does nothing.  This tube
usually has a rubber cap on it, with a spring clamp holding it in place.  It
is possible that the rubber cap has deteriated and needs to be replaced.
Any vacuum cap of the right diameter will do.
