Since it's cold here in Utah, I'm trying to get the heater to work in ol'
1343. How is the vaccum control valve supposed to work? Is is supposed to
be open or closed when engine vaccum is applied?
Last summer I was getting heat (as I had directly connected the valve to the
engine vaccum) so someone on the list told me to disconnect the valve because
it is open when vaccum is applied.
But, when I move the warm/cold lever to warm it pushes in the switch (under
the dash on the passenger side) which shuts off the vaccum to the valve.
Moving the lever to cold opens the switch under the dash allowing vaccum to
go to the valve. Either way, I don't get any heat in the car. It could be
a bad valve but everything (valve, heater core, etc.) is new from the
rebuild so I don't suspect any problems with them.
