One other thing I think important to add is because the drier/receiver
is a Bricklin part, unless it has been completely open for a tremendous
amount of time and suffered some chemical contamination, it should be
perfectly salvageable without opening it up. Any moisture can be boiled off
by getting an a/c shop to place the receiver on a *deep* two stage vacuum.
Most a/c shops, but not automotive ones, have this equipment. Since both
ends are fitted, this shouldn't be a major thing. Usually this cannot be
accomplished while the receiver is on the car due to most systems suffering
minor leaks. This seems easier and cheaper than cutting it open and
replacing the core or retrofitting an aftermarket. Also a little dab of
refrigerant oil on any fittings will help seal the seats.
