I believe you're thinking of carbon-graphite, such as
is used in RFI suppression sparkplug/coil wire. Just
to confirm my memory, I poured some dry lubricating
graphite onto my work table, and it showed an open
circuit using a DMM.

Anyway, I agree you shouldn't use it in this
application as it will act as an insulator if it gets
between the contacts, causing hot spotting/arcing.

If you're careful, they are easy to
disassemble/reassemble (catch the springs!), allowing
proper cleaning of the contacts.
