Help with TR6 Oil Cartridge

I have changed the original oil cartridge to a spin-on oil adapter on my 1976
TR6.  Because the steering rod is in the way, I can't remove the outside metal
casing used for the oil cartridge.  I would like to know from anyone that has
done this before to let me know how to get the metal casing out from under the
steering linkage so I can remove it.
